Measuring: Dimensions and Metrics
Updated: 12-05-2024
- The Dimensions (orange) are string values to be counted. You can drag them to the left side of the freeform table.
- The Metrics (green) are numeric values that count each dimension string value. You can drag them to the upper right corner of the freeform table. Typical metrics are "Pageviews", "Sessions" (Visits) and "People" (Unique Visitors).
- The Filters (blue) are customizable and are applied to your analysis. You can apply them to an entire panel or use as a table header (in place of a Dimension).
- The Calendar (purple) is the date range that you are reporting on. You can choose days/months/quarters/years, as well as rolling time periods (last 52 weeks).
A basic report in Customer Journey Analytics shows rows of dimensions (commonly string values), against a column of metrics (commonly numeric values).
For example, if you combined the Page dimension with the People metric, you would get a ranked report showing your top-visited pages by people
Types of metrics
Adobe offers several types of metrics for use in Analysis Workspace:
-
Standard metrics: Example of standard metrics are People, Sessions, Pageviews, Events.
- People (was Unique Visitors): The People metric in Customer Journey Analytics is the count distinct of Person IDs. Depending on what you choose as the Person ID when you configure datasets in your connection, the People metric can mean different things.
- Sessions (was Visits): The Sessions metric in Customer Journey Analytics is what you define as part of the configuration of the Sessions settings in your data view. See Session settings (adobe).
- Pageviews: The Pageviews metric in Customer Journey Analytics are comprised of the events that only include page loads, not clicks.
- Events: The Events metric in Customer Journey Analytics are comprised of the events (page loads + clicks) that are part of any event dataset you have configured as part of your connection.
-
Calculated metrics: User-defined metrics that are based on standard metrics, static numbers, or algorithmic functions. Use logic + math to define how you want to count something. See Calculated metrics overview (adobe) for more information.
-
Calculated metric templates: Adobe-defined metrics that behave similarly to calculated metrics. You can use them as-is in Workspace projects, or save a copy to customize the logic. See Default calculated metrics (adobe).
